Which? revealed today the results of a survey, commissioned by Sainsbury’s, which showed that people are wasting less food because of the credit crunch.
People are cooking more from scratch and using up leftovers more often. However, a spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said that the research had also revealed that widespread confusion over “best before” and “use by” dates was contributing to the waste problem because people were throwing away food which was still perfectly edible.
The supermarket chain is running a “Love your leftovers” campaign together with Good Housekeeping magazine, and is also working with the LoveFoodHateWaste campaign in an effort to reduce food waste in the UK.
