Gordon Ramsay on Shark Fin Soup

A couple of years ago, I wrote about sharks as an endangered species and the evils of the trade in shark fins. Shark fin soup, as we all know, is popular in some parts of Asia because it’s perceived as being a health food, and it’s also a status symbol because of how expensive it is.

Apparently Gordon Ramsay has taken up the cause. Forgive me for being sceptical about family-man Ramsay, but I find it hard to believe this rather unlikeable chap would do anything to promote anyone or anything other than himself. Oh well, even if he is just jumping on the bandwagon to for self-promotional purposes, at least it might bring the issue of sharks to more people’s attention.

Here’s a video of him in action.

What do you think of Gordon Ramsay and, more importantly, do you have anything to say about shark fin soup?

  1. Ive never eaten sharks fin soup and have no wish to, having heard what happens to the rest of the shark. Id rather eat in another restaurant than go to one serving sharks fin.

I dont need Ramsay to tell me not to, either. OK, so hes doing something very publicly to get restaurant owners to stop serving it. But how many of them will keep up the posters they were filmed putting up in that video?

I find it laughable that hes portraying himself as a man of principle when hes so willing to trample over other peoples principles. Remember that vegetarian he tricked into eating meat? And what the hell was he doing on that boat in the first place if hes so disgusted by it?
