Events February 2009

1 February: Chinese New Year

Although the Chinese New Year celebrations are drawing to a close by the beginning of the month, there are still events going on. The London Chinese Chinatown Association are making a big day of it on Sunday 1 February.
See their website for more information:

6 February: Waitangi Day

New Zealanders everywhere will be celebrating their national day with food, drinks, and parties. For Waitangi Day pub crawls and other events in London, see the Waitangi Day London website.

24 February: Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)

The idea is to feast on those perishables which won’t keep until the end of Lent (eggs, milk, etc). This Christian tradition is also known as the Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday. Look out also for Pancake Races around the world, including the Pancake Olympics.
See the BBC’s page about Shrove Tuesday for more information.
