by Eric Treuille and Victoria Blashford-Snell

This book made it to Number 5 of my Top Ten list for 2008. If you’re into making canapés, nibbles and tapas, whether for entertaining or just for yourselves, then this book is an absolute must. It’s packed full of of inspiring photos and recipes for wonderful party snacks.

I’ve made lots of things from the ideas in this book – tostaditas, tiny scones, etc.

So, what’s it all about?

The blurb inside the front cover says, “From spicy coriander prawns to mini beetroot rosti with smoked trout and horseradish mousse, masterchef Eric Treuille and professional caterer Victoria Blashford-Snell show how to prepare more than 250 simple yet sensational canapés”.

Hmm, it sounds a bit posh and as though it might be a bit of a faff to make some of these things. But, honestly, some can be done in minutes. They really are quick and easy.

As well as the terrific photos, including step-by-step instructions, there are also tips about preparing ahead, imaginative ideas for stylish presentation and garnishing, and menu suggestions.

It’s a foolproof guide which places speed and ease at a premium, featuring recipes that can be prepared ahead of time, enabling you to relax and enjoy the party.

The book is organised into five main groups:

  • nibbles, dips and dippers
  • tops and bottoms
  • sticks and skewers
  • wraps and rolls
  • stacks and cases

It really is an essential resource for anyone who wants to entertain in style.
