Who invented hummus?

Just about every country in the Middle East claims to have invented hummus.

According to the Syrian Foodie in London blog:

Hummus originates from Syria. Not Lebanon, not Egypt, not Jordan, not Palestine and not Israel. All the proof you need is that there’s a city called Hums in Syria. Enough said.

LOL! But if you’re interested in reading more about the history and origin of this popular dish, then Wikipedia has an interesting page on the subject.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese are adamant that it’s their invention and have taken the record for the world’s largest plate of hummus. It took about 300 chefs to make this whopper of a dish which weighed in at more than two tonnes. You can find out more and see a short video of the dish being made on the BBC website.
