Think Breakfast

Farmhouse Breakfast Week: 25-31 January 2009

The tenth annual Farmhouse Breakfast Week will take place from 25-31 January 2009 and promises to be the nation’s biggest breakfast celebration ever, with hundreds of events expected to take place across the country.

Run by the HGCA and supported by hundreds of schools, breakfast clubs, restaurants, cafes, chefs and producers, the week is a celebration of the variety and provenance of the country’s breakfast foods.

‘Think Breakfast’ is the theme of this year’s celebration and HGCA will be encouraging everyone to think twice about the most important meal of the day:

  • Think nutrition – breakfast can be an important source of vitamins, minerals and fibre.
  • Think weight management – kick-starts the metabolism and helps with weight control as it reduces cravings for mid-morning snacks.
  • Think brain power – a healthy breakfast can boost concentration and mental performance as well as reduce stress levels.
  • Think variety – such is the choice of healthy breakfast foods from around the regions, that there is always a breakfast dish to suit everyone.

New for 2009 is a fantastic recipe booklet with a range of ideas for all occasions. If short on time, think Fruity Granola with rhubarb, or to cheer up a dull Monday morning, think Cinnamon Toast with Blueberries. For a leisurely weekend brunch, think Potato Cakes with Bacon. Finally for the weight conscious, think Stuffed Tomatoes with mustard, low fat cream cheese, topped with oats.
