Chocolate Courses

Whether you’re already a culinary professional wanting to learn new skills or a complete beginner, there’s probably a course that’s just right for you. Here I’ve rounded up a selection of culinary schools offering courses which you can attend and perfect your skills.

The Chocolate Academy offers a wide range of courses in a number of different countries. Their UK base is in Banbury. There are more details on their website about where their other courses are based, including in Canada, USA, Switzerland, Russia, Malaysia etc. They have a variety of courses at different levels for both professionals and enthusiastic amateurs.

Slattery’s in Manchester offer a number of courses specialising in chocolate work. They have courses for both amateurs and professionals.

Artistry in Confectionery and Patisserie, as the name suggests, offers culinary artwork courses. These can be taken in small groups and one-to-one tuition is also available on request. All their courses are run at The State of the Art of Yale College of Wrexham, North Wales.

My Chocolate offers various chocolate making workshops with Green & Blacks throughout the year. The workshops are based in London, Brighton and Manchester.

The Artisan Chocolate Workshop has a mobile catering workshop so they can come to you (south coast of England), and you don’t get any mess in your own kitchen. They offer all sorts of things from one-to-one training for professionals and hobbyists, courses and chocolate parties for children and more. Have a look on their website for more details.

There are several more chocolate courses around the UK listed on Hot Courses.

If all this has whetted your appetite to attend a chocolatier course but there’s nothing available in your area, don’t despair – you can even learn online!

Ecole Chocolat offers a variety of chocolatier courses. The online courses can be studied in your own home and don’t require you to reorganise your life around family, work and other commitments. The professional chocolatier course is US$685, plus you may need to buy some equipment and, of course, the ingredients to follow the programme. It’s quite a big financial commitment but it’s still cheaper than giving up work or going to culinary school full-time. This course could be ideal for anyone who wants to set up in business as a chocolatier.
